Mariano Fortuny Midnight Black Silk Peplos size_small Very few of his piecesMariano Fortuny y Madrazo created this gown in a Venetian palazzo and it was originally purchased in 1919. Beautifully shaped in luxurious black silk the gown is delicately pleated in the secretive Fortuny manner with heat and ceramic rods. The silk was dyed several times to enrich the color. Murano glass beads are strung on silk cord along the seams providing a smooth graceful silhouette. The gown is inspired by the Greek chiton and meant to be worn
